One of my amazing endeavors in life is my work with CCMI. So, I’ve been asked to lead a discussion this morning, in a couple of hours, on responsiveness with a few team members. That is, how to be responsive to people and important stuff. Let’s face it, being responsive in our world makes you a freaking hero. We live in a world where a lack of responsiveness is the well trodden and accepted path.

So I’ve been thinking about responsiveness. At one level, we can talk about returning phone calls, emails and getting “back to” someone about important issues. Timeliness with regards to all of that is one form of responsiveness. Seeing a need and meeting it before it becomes all that visible. That’s another way to view it. On we could go describing responsiveness. But, as I think about leading this discussion with some very cool people this morning, I’m struck by something else.

Is responsiveness more an outcome of other conditions? Add the correct inputs and out pops responsiveness. So, I started wondering what those other conditions might be.

Here are at least a few:

Responsiveness is an outcome.

An outcome of what?

Energy

Energy for what?

Energy for something that matters to me. The more I can connect and direct my energy to what matters to me, the more responsive I become.

Responsiveness is an outcome.

An outcome of what?

An outcome of passion.

The more passionate you are about something or someone, the more responsive you become.

Responsiveness is an outcome

An outcome of what?

An outcome of curious and “same thing” relationships

The more curious “we” are and the more we want the “same thing” the more responsive we become and the more we will encourage responsiveness in each other.

Responsiveness is an outcome

An outcome of what?

An outcome of “staying with.” If I learn to “stay with” something even just a bit longer than I think I can, I become responsive. Energy for responsiveness, heck energy for anything, is often the result of pushing through the initial desire to quit.

Responsiveness is an outcome

An outcome of what?

Your turn….
