In his book, Smarter, Faster, Better: The Secrets of Being Productive In Life and Business, Charles Duhigg tells a story about Eric Quintanilla.
Quintanilla joined the Marines when he was 23 years old. He found in the Corps a philosophy of life that taught him how to proactively collaborate with others under enormous pressure. Quintanilla left the Corps after 3 years of service.
Once out of the military, Quintanilla got a civilian job, but found that his colleagues weren’t that interested in achieving high performance. He left the job and and decided to reenlist. When Duhigg asked him why he reenlisted he said, “I missed people pushing me to choose a better me.”

We all need a tribe of people who push us to be better. When we are challenged to reach new levels of excellence, it creates inspiration and camaraderie. So here are a couple of questions for you:
- Who challenges you to be a better version of yourself?
- Is your tribe committed to helping each member “level up” to higher levels of excellence and achievement?
If you consistently challenge each other to be better, it will spread through the store. Not only will it increase your performance, but it will inspire other employees to do the same.
